  • What is the difference between a periodontist and a general dentist?

A periodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on treating and preventing gum disease and other diseases and conditions that affect the gums and other structures in the mouth. The process for getting a dental implant typically involves a consultation with a periodontist, the placing of the implant into the jawbone, and then the final placement of the crown, bridge or denture onto the implant. The entire process can take several months to complete.

  • What are gum grafts and why would someone need them?

Gum grafts are a type of soft tissue graft that can involve taking a small piece of tissue from the roof of the mouth and transplanting it to the area of the gums that have receded due to periodontal disease. • What should I expect from a periodontal treatment?

During periodontal treatment, you can expect a comprehensive evaluation of your oral health, including an assessment of the health of your gums, teeth, and surrounding tissues. Depending on your individual needs, you may receive a deep cleaning, a dental implant, a gum graft, or other treatments. Your periodontist will develop a customized treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs.
